February Highlights · Matches worked together on an experiment “Understanding Lactose Intolerance”, where matches tested glucose levels in water, water with 2g of glucose dissolved, milk, and lactose-free milk. Then Bigs and Littles repeated the test after adding lactase to the solutions. Matches learned about what lactose is and how most bodies are less able to digest it as we grow older unless we of western or northern European decent. · During our “Understanding Lactose Intolerance” experiment, Big Brother Jon taught everyone more about the changes that occur when lactase is introduced. We were all glued to Jon as he provided Bigs and Littles with helpful visuals. · Our most recent experiment was the “Electrolyte Challenge” that produced surprising results! Most of us would assume that sports drinks provide the greatest electrolyte replenishment after a grueling physical endeavor however after building a circuit and using a multimeter to measure electrolyte presence, it was discovered Orange Juice was the winner of the challenge! · Inspired by our understanding of salts, Bigs and Littles built on the idea and decided to test a pickle for fun! view image
