Hi Metcalf families,

We are very excited to view the eclipse as a school community tomorrow afternoon. That being said, eye safety is our number one concern. I have partnered with the PTA to purchase enough eclipse glasses for all our students, faculty, and staff. The most important thing for students to understand is that they must wear the glasses when looking directly at the sun.

To that end, I ask that you view the video, "Dayton Children's Hospital" (eye safety for kids) at the link below with your children tonight. Please ensure they fully understand that wearing the glasses we give them tomorrow is required for the short time we will be outside, or anytime they look directly at the sun between 2:15 and 4:45 tomorrow afternoon. Each class will be doing the same in the morning but it means so much more if they hear it from home and school.

We will have 2-3 adults with every class to help supervise and monitor students as we watch the beginning of the eclipse at 2:15. We’ll come back into the building by 2:40 to prepare for dismissal. During dismissal all faculty & staff will be available to monitor and supervise students to ensure their eye safety as they board buses or are dismissed to families.

This is such an awesome opportunity to see and experience the amazing world and universe we are a part of…there’s LOTS to talk about as a family and school community and we can’t wait!

Please feel free to send your child to school with a towel to sit on while outside for this spectacular event!

Thanks so much and have a wonderful night!

Mrs. Ratigan :)
